The optional clinical component of the Psychodynamic Approaches in Clinical Practice program is open to students who have had clinical experience and want to further develop their experience as a clinician from a psychoanalytic perspective. Students who select the clinical component see patients in the NIP Treatment Center for 2 years.
Students are assigned patients from the NIP Treatment Center and see the patients on-site in the NIP offices.
In the second year, students who opt to participate in the clinical component also participate in a weekly case seminar which is both didactic and experiential.
Admission Criteria
Acceptance to the Psychodynamic Approaches in Clinical Practice program.
Applicants must be licensed. This includes social workers with either an LMSW or a LCSW, as well as licensed psychologists, psychiatrists, and mental health practitioners.
Applicants must carry malpractice insurance.
Program Requirements
Students must participate in once weekly individual supervision.
Students must attend once weekly therapy.
Students must see between 2 and 4 patients once weekly.
In the second year, students must participate in a weekly case seminar (20 sessions).
Program Length
Two years; students participate in courses in the spring and fall semesters in the first year and case seminar in the second year; however, patients are seen once weekly on a year-round basis.
Dates & Times When Courses Are Offered
Second year case seminars are held every other Monday from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm, September 2024 through May 2025.
Other Requirements for Completing the Program
Students must fulfill all NIP Treatment Center requirements for therapists when seeing patients, including session notes and other paperwork.
Tuition & Fees
Tuition for the second year is $1,824.

Supervision Costs
Year 1: $40 per session
Year 2: $50 per session
There is no separate application fee for the clinical component of this program.
Remuneration
Students are remunerated for each patient session that they conduct. The remuneration fees for this program are:
