Using a combination of didactic and experiential learning (demonstration, videotapes, and skills practice), participants will learn a new model for treating trauma patients that does justice to the traumatic past while stabilizing their ability to live a normal life in the here-and-now.  When trauma symptoms are understood and treated neurobiologically as communications from young traumatized selves, even the most self-destructive, therapy-destructive, and de-stabilized clients become understandable and manageable.

Learning Objectives

• Describe the relationship between neurobiologically-driven trauma responses and unsafe behavior
• Differentiate trauma-related implicit memory from affective responses to experience
• Discuss the role of structural dissociation in trauma-related symptoms and self-destructive behavior
• Identify signs and symptoms of fragmentation and internal conflict
• Facilitate patient ability to observe indications of fragmented parts of the self
• Increase patient self-compassion by facilitating empathy for wounded child parts
• Integrate somatic interventions for regulating autonomic arousal and affect dysregulation
• Facilitate use of internal communication for self-soothing and self-regulation
• Integrate interpersonal neurobiology and social engagement techniques into the treatment

Cancellation requests made more than a week prior to the event will be given a full refund of registration fees. Refunds will not be granted for cancellation requests made within a week of the event or for no-shows on the day of the event.
