The NIP Integrative Trauma Program (ITP) is a professional community dedicated to the clinical exploration, understanding, assessment, and treatment of traumatic experiences. We are committed to creating an inclusive community where candidates, supervisors and faculty of all cultures, races and identities feel welcomed.

The Program has 3 separate and complementary training programs that may be attended independently, sequentially, or simultaneously.

ITP’s Training Programs:

Certificate Program in Integrative Trauma Studies (Now Online!)

A 9-month program of weekly seminars leading to a Certificate in Integrative Trauma Studies and offering CE contact hours. Seminars are led by our outstanding faculty of trauma treatment experts who integrate psychoanalytic/psychodynamic concepts with contemporary clinical issues in the understanding and treatment of trauma.

Clinical Affiliate Program

A 2-year certificate program for EMDR-trained clinicians who are dedicated to the treatment of trauma. Participants provide treatment for patients referred from NIP's EMDR Trauma Treatment Center, attend weekly group supervision with EMDRIA-approved Consultants and monthly clinical seminars led by senior faculty members and supervisors in the Integrative Trauma Program.

Child and Adolescent Trauma Certificate Program

A 9- month program of weekly 3-hour seminars offering CE hours and leading to a Certificate in Child and Adolescent Trauma Treatment. Seminars address the impact of trauma on childhood development, attachment, play and neurobiology. Play therapy and a range of trauma-informed treatment modalities are introduced

This is the only trauma-informed, certificate program in New York City that focuses on treatment of children and adolescents.

Trauma Colloquia
ITP Colloquia are scheduled twice during the academic year on Thursday evenings. Presentations cover a range of specialized topics in traumatology and trauma treatment and are open to the NYC professional community.

EMDR Training
The Integrative Trauma Program offers an annual comprehensive EMDR training with Hope Payson, LCSW, the Program's Senior EMDR Consultant and Trainer. Training scholarships are available for 2 trainees who will use EMDR to address cultural and racialized trauma in their clinical work.

EMDR Trauma Treatment Center
The EMDR Trauma Treatment Center provides low-cost, short-term trauma treatment for adults. Treatment is informed by the integration of EMDR and other trauma-related modalities with psychoanalytic/psychodynamic psychotherapy. Click here to learn more about the clinical services offered by the EMDR Trauma Treatment Center. 

Continuing Education
The National Institute for the Psychotherapies is recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #SW-0018.

The National Institute for the Psychotherapies is recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Mental Health Practitioners as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed psychoanalysts #Psyan-0004.

The National Institute for the Psychotherapies is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer continuing education credits for psychologists. The National Institute for the Psychotherapies maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
